Texas Dutchmen

texas dutchmenWhat do you get when you mix 60 years of experience with the exuberance of youth? That sound is the Texas Dutchmen!! With Harry's brand of excitement, a youthful four horn section, and both electric bass or tuba, you get the powerful lively Texas Dutchmen sound that is instantly recognizable both on the stage and on the radio. Combine that with the ability to play a wide variety of polka styles, including Texas Czech favorites, landlers, concert style, European style, and even a little country and big band tossed in for spice!

The Texas Dutchmen band was formed in 1970 with the best area musicians from Czech, German and Polish backgrounds.

Since then, the band has played thousands of shows throughout Texas and the Central US, including weddings, anniversaries, the Praha Picnic, the National Polka Festival in Ennis, the Knights of Columbus State convention, the SPJST Convention as well as many of the dance halls and clubs in Texas. The band also appeared on radio shows on KFRD, KTRH,
KSEV, KULP and the Ennis festival KBEC live broadcast.

The band has appeared at the Holiday Inn Polka fest in Omaha, The Kansas Polkatennial, The National Polka Festival in Ennis Texas, The Great Bend Polka Days, the Bill Mraz hall, the Wurstfest in New Braunfels, the St. Lawrence Polka Club, Yukon Oklahoma, Holyrood Kansas, Grand Island and Wahoo Nebraska, the Westfest at West, Texas, the Fort Bend Czech Festival at Rosenberg Texas, the TPMA music awards, and numerous festivals, bazaars and other dances. They also appeared at the Sam Houston Race Park, Alley Theatre, and the Accordion Kings sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts in Houston Texas at the Houston's Miller Outdoor Theatre.

The Texas Dutchmen have issued 12 recordings, the last 6 available on CD, with more on the way. Special thanks to all the DJ's who have played Texas Dutchmen songs on the radio!

Current personnel are David Czarnek and David Hooten, sax and clarinet, Ryan Barker and Kyle Baragas, trumpet, Larry Haag, drums, Harold Strand, piano and Branch Luetge, tuba and electric bass.
